Dear Members and Friends
As you no doubt aware by now, 2012 is the year when those throughout the world can join together in celebrating the 60th year of the reign of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Consequently, this year has been named the Diamond Jubilee year and various events are being held around the planet to celebrate the second longest reign of a British monarch in history. (Queen Victoria reigned for 64 years from 1837 to 1901)
Here in South Africa there will be celebrations in all the main centers and Cape Town will be holding a number of events on Monday 4th June.
Jacinta and I, together with Gordon and Mary Wallace of the Pinelands Caledonian Society as well as the President of the Cape Welsh Society, Mrs Sian Erasmus, will be attending an event in Hout bay at the East Fort where cannons will be fired by the Hout Bay Gunners during the afternoon celebration. In attendance will be the Minister of Culture and Sports, Dr Ivan Meyer, Deputy Mayor of the City of Cape Town, Mr Ian Neilson and the British Consul-General, Mr Chris Trott who will all deliver a speech. Later there will be a number of public events held at the V&A Waterfront to which anyone can attend, you can download a copy of the press release received this morning so that you will know when and what to see at the V&A Waterfront on Monday 4th June 2012. We’ll see you there.
BREAKING NEWS: We’ve just been advised that Jacinta has been chosen to ‘assist’ in the firing one of the cannons in Hout Bay during one of the two salvos that will be fired– that should be interesting.
Kind regards
Stuart Munro
